Arizona monsoon of 2021

Last month I wrote about monsoons being an important part of Arizona’s summers. Monsoon season is a time in Arizona when everyone knows storms can show up very quickly. We can suddenly get intense winds at 30 mph. Dust clouds can carry as high as 3000 feet. Lightning can pepper the sky and rain can become so intense we get flash flooding. It can all be intense to experience.

This year has been a very active monsoon. By the beginning of August we had already gotten more rain than the previous two years combined! In addition, Arizona monsoon season isn’t considered over until the end of September. We still have a month to go!

While the amount of rain we have been getting this 2021 monsoon season has been great. Arizona is still in a drought. This summers rain isn’t enough to get us out of the drought. So Arizona is going to have to continue to hope for more rain in the summer and snow up north in the winter to get us out of the drought.
